In 2004, the College of Arts and Sciences, now the College of Arts and Humanities announced an initiative to develop a university-wide center for teaching and research in the humanities and arts. The center would focus especially on studies that are interdisciplinary and cross-cultural. Since 2005 it has sponsored or co-sponsored a series of colloquia, public lectures, and conferences, including:
